Canadian metallurgical coal and zinc miner Teck Resources Limited has said that minimal damage was caused by an explosion on June 28 in the coal dryer at Teck's Greenhills coal mine near Elkford, British Columbia. The company said that four employees were treated for minor smoke inhalation on the day of the accident.

The company said on July 2 that structural engineers and representatives of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources have conducted a preliminary site assessment of the Greenhills mine's coal dryer building, but the cause of the accident has not yet been determined.

Raw coal from the Greenhills mine is being hauled to the nearby Fording River mine for processing in Fording River's facilities.

Teck has an 80 percent interest in Greenhills. Greenhills's planned 2010 production is approximately 4.3 million mt of metallurgical coal, of which Teck's share is approximately 3.4 million mt.
