On October 7 Indian steelmaker Tata Steel said that in the second quarter of the current Indian fiscal year, ended on September 30, it witnessed a 19 percent rise year on year in its sales to 1.46 million metric tons.
During the quarter in question, the company's crude steel output rose by 21 percent to 1.64 million metric tons, while its hot metal output went up also by 21 percent to 1.8 million metric tons, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. The company's saleable steel production increased by 14 percent year on year in the second quarter to 1.52 million metric tons.
On the other hand, in the first half of the FY 2009-10, Tata Steel produced 3,14 million metric tons of crude steel - up 21 percent, 3.48 million metric tons of hot metal - up 21 percent and 3.06 million metric tons of saleable steel - up 22 percent, all compared to H1 FY 2008-09. The company's sales in the half year in question increased by 21 percent to 2.88 million metric tons, due to the 49 percent increase in its long product sales.
