Tata Steel to commission its Kalinga Nagar plant in 2014

Indian steelmaker Tata Steel's project in Kalinga Nagar, Orissa, will be commissioned in early 2014. The plant, groundwork of which has already been completed, will concentrate entirely on flat steel products, catering to the needs of the automotive industry and white goods.


In the first phase, the plant will have a production capacity of 3-3.5 million mt per year. In the second phase, the production capacity will be enhanced to 6 million mt per year.


Tata Steel Managing Director H. M. Nerurkar said that Tata Steel had already invested INR 10,000 crore ($ 2.24 billion) at its Kalinga Nagar Project and the company estimated an investment of INR 20,000 crore - 25,000 crore. ($ 4.5-5.6 billion) Nerurkar said to reporters "In both the phases, we will manufacture flat products under hot roll and cold roll methods."
