Tata Steel Europe, a subsidiary of India's Tata Steel has announced that it will invest £2.4 million in the Port Talbot steelworks in Wales, UK to recycle energy from the continuous annealing process line (CAPL) at the site.

With this investment, Tata Steel will improve the competitiveness of the site, generate over 1 MW of energy, and reduce carbon emissions by 6,000 mt a year, also contributing to the sustainability of the site.

According to Tata Steel's statement, the CAPL waste heat recovery project is scheduled to be carried out between July and December 2012 so that it will coincide with the basic oxygen steelmaking plant project. At the same time, Tata Steel will also carry out a £185 million project to rebuild Port Talbot's blast furnace No. 4.
