Tangshan Iron and Steel Company has now eliminated all furnaces of 450 cubic meter and lower capacities. Thus, the company has met the three energy saving and emission reduction targets, namely in relation to comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel, SO2 emissions and COD emissions, in line with its agreement with the government of Hebei Province.

Despite the unprecedented slackness of demand faced by the steel industry in the latter half of last year, in 2008 Tangshan Steel still completed thirteen energy saving and emission reduction projects on the back of total investments of RMB 551 million ($81 million). In addition, the producer reduced its SO2 emissions by 17,729 mt in 2008.
