Talvivaara cuts production guidance for 2013

Finland-based nickel and zinc miner Talvivaara Mining Company Plc has announced that it produced 1,776 mt of nickel in the second quarter of the current year and 4,508 mt of nickel in the first six months. The company carried out a scheduled maintenance stoppage in late May and early June, due to which the metals plant was shut down or running at substantially restricted capacity for approximately two and a half weeks.

Talvivaara has reduced its 2013 nickel production guidance to approximately 18,000 mt, while the second half production is expected to increase substantially compared to the first half as the newly stacked heaps are taken into production.

Talvivaara stated that its extensive cost reduction and efficiency program is continuing to increase overall cost efficiency and improve productivity levels.
