China's largest stainless steelmaker, Shanxi Province-based Taiyuan Iron & Steel Corporation, has announced that it has dismantled six 20-ton capacity electric arc furnaces (EAF) at its No. 3 steelmaking plant, in order to reduce environmental pollution and decrease energy consumption.

As a result of this move, the plant's energy consumption decreases to 29.3 kg of standard coal per ton of steel, while dust discharge drops to 0.15 kg per ton of steel.

Meanwhile, the company is expected to commission a 90-ton capacity EAF soon.
