Taiyuan Stainless Steel makes breakthrough in 9%Ni steel production

Tags: stainless , stainless , China , Far East , production , steelmaking | similar articles »

Shanxi-based Chinese steelmaker Taiyuan Stainless Steel has recently made a breakthrough in the development of phosphorus removal technology in stainless steel containing nine percent nickel, reducing phosphorus content to 0.0014 percent at the lowest.

Stainless steel containing nine percent nickel, which is specifically used for liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks, features greater ductility in low-temperature situations and better yield strength compared with austenitic stainless steels. The phosphorus content in steel is a key factor influencing ductility. Taiyuan Stainless Steel's success in phosphorus removal technology will enable China to be more competitive in the field of LNG tanks.
