Monday, 10 December 2012 14:43:24 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul
Taiwanese steelmaker Dragon Steel Co., a subsidiary of Taiwan's largest steelmaker China Steel Corporation (CSC), has put its third continuous slab caster into operation at its Taichung site. The caster was supplied by the Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Metals Technologies.

According to Siemens' statement, the two-strand caster is designed to produce approximately two million mt of slabs made of carbon and micro-alloyed steels annually for high quality flat rolled products. The new caster will produce slabs in a thickness of 250 mm and in widths ranging between 750 mm and 1,880 mm.

Siemens previously supplied two continuous slab casters for Dragon Steel commissioned in 2009 and 2010. Dragon Steel operates a blast furnace and a sintering plant at the site, with an additional blast furnace and a second sintering plant currently being supplied by Siemens.

Over the past few years, Dragon Steel has continuously increased production capacity and become more prominent in the flat rolled product market due to constant expansion of the facilities in Taichung.
