Taiwan to increase presence in Mexican auto parts industry

Taiwan expects more auto parts and equipment manufacturers to set up shop in Mexico, due to the country’s ranking as one of the  manufacturers and exporters of vehicles worldwide.

Taiwan’s Ambassador and Chief of Economic and Cultural Office in Mexico, Carlos Liao, said there are currently more than 300 Taiwanese companies operating in Mexico, not only in the automotive sector but telecommunications, appliances and high-end technology, which generate more 60,000 direct jobs.

In an interview with Notimex news agency, Liao cited the case of the Taiwanese company Macauto’s plan to invest approximately US $15 million in its first plant in the city of Leon, in the central state of Guanajuato, which is expected to generate hundreds of jobs.

Liao said that these investments are always materialize as governors offer support and have an interest in creating jobs with the arrival of these companies and there is great progress and negotiations with states like Coahuila, Guanajuato, Jalisco and Aguascalientes in that regard.
