Taiwan’s Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced on April 16 that it has launched a countervailing duty (CVD) investigation on imports of galvanized steel, carbon steel plates, cold rolled stainless steel, hot rolled stainless steel and cold rolled carbon steel products from China, and an antidumping (AD) duty investigation on imports of hot rolled stainless steel and cold rolled carbon steel products from China.

The ministry stated that the investigations were launched in order to obtain exemptions from US steel tariffs for Taiwanese steel products by reducing the doubts that Chinese steel products are being exported to the US through Taiwan.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs will announce its results of the preliminary investigations within 40 days after the announcement of the investigations. If it is determined that the imports of mentioned products damage the domestic industry, the Ministry of Finance will announce its preliminary determinations within 70 days after receiving the notification from the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
