Major strikes and demonstrations by ArcelorMittal workers are expected today, December 7, in every country and plant in Europe where global steel giant ArcelorMittal has production facilities.

The European Metalworkers' Federation (EMF), the representative body defending the interests of workers in the European metal industry, stated that there will be a 24-hour warning strike in Belgium, with an extensive demonstration in Liège. In addition, another 24-hour warning strike will take place in Luxembourg where the company's headquarters are located, while work stoppages will take place at all sites in France, Italy, Spain and at some sites in Germany.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, the EMF has urged workers and subcontractors to protest against "plant closures, restructuring plans and job cuts which threaten the long-term viability of Europe's leading steelmaker."
