SSAB will increase HDG output

Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB is planning to transform its existing Aluzink line in Borlänge to hot dipped galvanizing in order to increase the hot dipped galvanized output in its painting lines in Borlänge and Finspång. However, the Aluzink line will maintain production during autumn but will close at around the end of this year. In the first phase, the company will install a new pot to hot dipped galvanizing. As a result of this installation, the production will be shut down temporarily in January. The second phase of transformation will be done in the middle of next year. Currently, SSAB's hot dipped galvanizing annual production capacity in Borlänge is around 300'000 tons. The capacity of the new line is expected to be similar. Furthermore, Aluzink line's annual capacity is around 150'000 tons.
