UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that Swedish specialty steel producer SSAB’s subsidiary SSAB Europe Oy has commenced production operations at the last of its three LD (BOF) converters, supplied by Primetals Technologies, located in Raahe, Finland. The first converter was started up in October last year and the second one in May this year.

With an optimized converter design, the new equipments will improve steel quality and enable larger reaction volumes and a long useful life.

SSAB Europe Oy’s integrated steel mill in Raahe is the largest production facility of its kind in the Nordic countries.
