In September this year, the Spanish industrial production index decreased by 11.7 percent year on year, while the seasonally adjusted index declined by seven percent year on year. According to the revised figures provided by Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE), in August the respective indexes both fell by 2.5 percent on year-on-year basis.
Meanwhile, in the first nine months of the current year Spain’s industrial production index declined by 6.2 percent compared to the same period of 2011. In particular, the production index for durable consumer goods fell by 12 percent, non-durable consumer goods were down 3.6 percent, capital goods decreased by 11.7 percent and intermediate goods were down 7.5 percent. The energy production index recorded the only positive year-on-year variation, up 0.6 percent in the January-September period.
The index for Spanish base metals production was down 6.8 percent in September and fell by 8.8 percent in January-September, both year on year. In addition, the index for metal product fabrication (except machinery and equipment) decreased by 22 percent in September and was down 17 percent in the first nine months, both year on year.
