According to preliminary customs data, South Africa exported 489,954 mt of pig iron in the January to October period, up 22.2 percent compared to the 401,031 mt in the same period the previous year.

South Africa exported 50,706 mt in November 2017 followed by an annual high of 92,548 mt in December of the same year. Given the end of year surge the previous year and the subdued buying activity in the pig iron market at the moment, sources expect a stable amount of pig iron exported by South Africa year-on-year.
