According to data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), in July this year the value of South Africa’s exports of base metals and articles thereof totaled ZAR 16.9 billion ($0.9 billion), down 14.4 percent from June. In the January-July period, South Africa’s export value of base metals and articles thereof rose by 9.6 percent year on year to ZAR 133.1 billion ($7.1 billion).
In July, the country’s imports of base metals and articles thereof amounted to ZAR 8.2 billion ($439.4 million), decreasing by 12.4 percent from the previous month, while in the first seven months of the year South African imports of base metals and articles thereof moved up by 4.4 percent year on year to ZAR 58.9 billion ($3.15 billion) compared to the same period of 2022.
