Sarah Cassella, a spokeswoman for U.S. Steel Corp. in Pittsburgh, told local media Tuesday that 76 workers are currently on layoff in Fairfield, down from the 225 workers on layoff at the end of May.

However, the company updated the federal WARN notices sent out January 27, which could impact 1,414 union and non-union employees. Layoffs related to adjusted operations could take effect on or after August 5, 2015.

Layoffs could take place in accounting, materials management, Power House and Power House maintenance, sheet maintenance, pickling and cold reduction maintenance, and other production shops at the Fairfield location, according to the employees listed as WARN notice recipients.
