Germany-based plantmaker SMS Group has announced that it will modernize the hot strip mill of ArcelorMittal Atlantique et Lorraine, France-based subsidiary of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, located at Dunkirk, France. Modernization will be implemented in three steps and will be completed in 2019.

According to SMS, the modernization covers the installation of the bending and shifting system, of new drive spindles in all finishing stands, and the installation of a new profile contour and flatness control system. This modernization provides the hot strip mill with a powerful actuator for influencing the strip geometry and prepares the mill for future challenges.
