German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that it will revamp one of the converters at the Salzgitter steelworks of German-based steel producer Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH. Through the modernization works, the specific volume of converter will be increased by approximately 18 percent, making for a more stable and more efficient production process.

The commissioning of the revamped converter is scheduled for the end of 2015.

SMS Siemag will also revamp the continuous caster No. 2 of Salzgitter to make the casting process safer and hence increase plant availability. Installation and commissioning will take place during a planned plant shutdown in September 2015.
