Smorgon Steel still continues its expansion strategy
Australian integrated steel producer Smorgon Steel Group Ltd. has taken two further steps along its planned international expansion strategy. The company has decided to purchase the South Pacific scrap metal collection assets from the Wanless Group of Companies. The Wanless group has carried on a scrap metal collection business in the South Pacific for eight years and has established a strong existence in both Papua New Guinea and Fiji. The company also provides scrap to Smorgon Steel Recycling while purchases its other requirements from Smorgon Steel Distribution. Furthermore, Smorgon has also announced that it will open a new trading office in New Delhi in August 2003. In addition, company authorities stated that the company has begun to see real benefits from their China and New Zealand trading offices.
