Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Metals Services has announced that it will be responsible for the maintenance of the continuous slab caster No. 3 of Brazil-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal Tubarão for the next five years. Payment will be based on plant performance figures, such as the production volume and the guaranteed service lives of the casting molds and segments used.

The continuous slab caster No. 3, which has been in operation since July 2007, has an annual production capacity of three million mt. The plant is able to produce the widest slabs in the country with widths of up to 2,325 mm.

ArcelorMittal Tubarão, the largest steelworks in Brazil, located in Serra, Espírito Santo, has an installed capacity of 7.5 million mt per year.
