Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has announced that it has received an order from Mexico's largest integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico, S.A.B. de C.V. (AHMSA) to modernize the basic oxygen furnace in the Monclova steelworks located in Coahuila.

Siemens will provide engineering and delivery of main components, supervising installation and startup. The upgrade will be completed in the spring of 2013.

AHMSA, with an annual crude steel output of 3.5 million mt, produces flat rolled steel, including hot and cold rolled coils, heavy plates, tin-coated and tin-free sheets, and a variety of heavy and light sections.
