Austria-based giant engineering and plantmaking company Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has announced the receipt of an order from Austrian steel producer Voestalpine Stahl GmbH for the modernization of its Linz-based hot strip mill's coiler units and the installation of a new crop shear at the mill.

The order, which is worth a two-digit million euro figure, is in line with Voestalpine Stahl's modernization program directed towards the increase of the Linz-based mill's annual production capacity from the current 4.6 million mt of hot strip production to five million mt. Moreover, Voestalpine Stahl is to add high-strength steel grades to the range of its products, as well as wider and thicker hot strips.

The project is scheduled for completion in July 2010.
