Sidor to install skin pass line

Siderurgica del Orinoco (Sidor) which is the largest steel producer in Venezuela, is planning to invest $16 million on a new hot skin pass line project to improve the shape and quality of its hot rolled coils. The new line will be installed in Sidor's Puerto Ordaz plant and will have an annual processing capacity of 600'000 tons. The new line is expected to start at the end of 2004. Sidor's officials expressed that the company aims to produce more value added products and alter their standard hot rolled coils with rolled or pickled products using the hot skin pass process. The new line's training will initiate in March 2004 while the equipment installation will be done in July 2004.
