Bolivian iron ore and steel project Empresa Siderurgica del Mutun (ESM) announced plans to export 255,000 mt of iron ore in 2023, against 152,000 mt exported in 2022.

According to ESM’s president Jorge Alvarado Rivas, responsible for the administration of the Busch Port, an additional 23,000 mt of other minerals are also expected to be exported from the port by different companies in 2023.

Although an internal country in South America, Bolivia has access to the Atlantic Ocean from the Busch Port, via the Paraguay River, having European countries as main targets.

In 2022, ESM exported iron ore to Romania, the UK and Poland.

The development of the project is currently estimated at 70 percent for both physical and financial execution. When concluded, it will be able to produce 100,000 mt of iron ore per month.
