Shandong Steel breaks ground for long steel project in Xinjiang

Chinese steelmaker Shandong Steel Group has announced that it broke ground for its new long steel project in Kashi in China's Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region on March 12. 
 
The overall project includes a 1,000 cubic meter blast furnace, a 100 mt converter and a rolling line with a designed annual capacity of 500,000 mt of wire rod and 500,000 mt of steel bar. Shandong provincial government will contribute funds for the project, while Huatian Engineering and Technology Corporation, subsidiary of China Metallurgic Group Corporation (MCC), will be in charge of the construction. The project is expected to be put into production by the end of October 2012.
