Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that its Cherepovets Steel Mill has launched the reconstruction of its gas-cleaning units.
Severstal stated that the project with a total cost of RUB 340 million ($10.7 million) will reduce emissions of silicon dioxide by 284 metric tons annually. Between 2011 and 2015, investments in environmental projects at Cherepovets Steel Mill will total approximately RUB 9.3 billion ($300 million).
Half of the environmental projects being implemented since the start of 2011 at the Severstal Russian Steel division aim to minimize harmful atmospheric emissions, while the other half focuses on reducing water pollution.
