The Russian steel producer Severstal plans by the end of September this year to complete the reconstruction of the continuous hot dip galvanizing (HDG) line at its steel producing subsidiary Severstal Cherepovets.
The HDG line reconstruction will allow Severstal Cherepovets to double its galvanized steel product capacity to 400,000 metric tons per year and to expand its product range. The investment in the project amounts to more than Ruble 2 billion (about $65 million).
Meanwhile, Severstal Cherepovets is also continuing the construction of its new second polymer coating line, the commissioning of which is planned for December 2011.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, the construction of the second polymer coating line, with a total projected cost of Ruble 3 billion (about $97 million), was started at the end of 2007 but was frozen in autumn 2008 due to the global financial crisis, being subsequently resumed in December 2009.
The line, supplied by the German plantmaker SMS Siemag, will have a production capacity of up to 200,000 metric tons per year, and will allow Severstal to increase its annual production capacity of polymer coated products to 400,000 metric tons.
