Severstal sees increased steel production in Q1

Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced its operational results for the first quarter of this year. Accordingly, Severstal's steel production in the first quarter increased by three percent to 3.933 million mt, while its hot metal production went up by three percent to 2.697 million mt, both year on year.

In the first quarter, Severstal's Russian Steel division's steel product sales declined by eight percent, while Severstal North America's sales rose by one percent, both compared to the fourth quarter last year. Respective year-on-year increases of two percent and four percent were recorded on year-on-year basis.

As regards consolidated sales (net of intercompany sales), Severstal stated that in the first quarter this year its coking coal concentrate sales decreased by 24 percent to 1.391 million mt, while its steel product sales decreased by three percent to 3.588 million mt, both year on year.
