The Russian steel producer Severstal has announced that it has started to receive the main technical equipment for its new pipe mill, Sheksna Pipe Works
Accordingly, Severstal's new pipe works, which is being built in the Sheksna industrial zone located in the Vologodsk region, has already received delivery of the first crane, which is now being installed in the mill's finished steel products warehouse. At the beginning of March, Severstal is to receive the slitting unit, the installation of which is scheduled to begin in April.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, the new plant is scheduled to start operations in the first quarter of 2010, and will have capacity for the production of 250,000 metric tons of fabricated sections a year. In addition, Sheksna will produce round, square and rectangular pipes with a range of diameters from 127 mm up to 426 mm. The total investment cost in the mill's construction is expected to exceed $100 million.
The steel stocks needed for production at the new plant will be supplied by Severstal Cherepovetsk, while the output from Sheksna will target the Russian construction industry.
