Severstal Columbus receives second production line from SMS Siemag

German-based plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that it has supplied and commissioned a second production line including an electric steel plant and a second compact strip production casting strand for the US-based steelmaker Severstal Columbus.
 
With the commissioning of the second production line, Severstal Columbus will supply 2.7 million mt per year of high-grade steel to the market. The compact strip production plant produces hot strip in widths from 900 to 1,880 mm and thicknesses from 1.3 to 12.7 mm.
 
SMS Siemag has also commissioned a new 540,000 mt per year push-pull pickling line for processing of the strips. This line, which processed its first coil in mid-November 2011, is used for uncoiling, leveling, pickling, side trimming and recoiling the hot strip.
