Severstal Cherepovets, the main steel producing facility of Severstal Russian Steel, plans to increase its deliveries of steel products to the Russian domestic market, Severstal Cherepovets' senior sales manager Yuri Sunyaev said at the Russian Ferrous Metals Market 2009, 12th International Conference, held on November 9 in Moscow.

According to Mr. Sunyaev, Severstal Cherepovets's share of the domestic market has sharply decreased from 69 percent in 2008 to 47 percent in the first nine months of 2009, which is the same share the company had ten years ago.

Mr. Sunyaev also noted that, according to the statistics, in 2009 there was no significant decrease in activity in the construction industry. In September this year, the volume of work in the Russian construction industry amounted to 81.7 percent of that in September last year, while in January-September this year the work volume was 81.6 percent of that recorded in the same period last year.

On the other hand, steelmakers' deliveries of steel products for construction purposes decreased in the current year by 40 percent. This decline is explained by the sharp fall in steel product stock levels at traders' warehouses, and is confirmed by a shortage of the most saleable types of rolled steel products used in construction industry.
