A second steel processing company will build near SeverCorr's Lowndes County, Mississippi plant, SeverCorr officials announced Thursday.
Severcorr said that New Process Steel, a Houston-based company that slits, processes and ships flat rolled steel, will replace Kenwal Steel Corp., a processor that had planned to build in Lowndes County but will now build in Tennessee.
NPS is planning a 150,000 square ft. facility, which is set to open in Q3 '08, joining hot rolled steel processor Heidtman Steel at the Golden Triangle Industrial Park.
NPS will serve as both a subcontractor and vendor for SeverCorr. SeverCorr will supply NPS with cold rolled and galvanized coils, which NPS will process and size for customers.
NPS COO Bob Proch told press, "We strongly believe the market will continue to grow in the South and Mexico and we look forward to working closely with SeverCorr."
SeverCorr officials say that they are in discussions to bring three to five other steel processors to the area, as location for steel suppliers has become more important due to higher fuel costs.
The entire SeverCorr facility will come online in October 2007.
