SDI’s New Millennium Building Systems to close Ohio steel joist manufacturing plant

Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI)'s  New Millennium Building Systems, a steel joist and deck manufacturing company, has announced that it will close its Continental, Ohio plant effective May 3due to a decline in building projects. 

Gary Heasley, New Millennium Building System's executive vice president, explained the reason for the plant shutdown by stating, "The weakness in the general economy and tightening of credit markets have caused delays and cancellations in building projects, which has resulted in fewer orders for joist products. To maximize the efficiency of our New Millennium business overall and to best serve our customers, we concluded it is necessary to shut down this plant, which is our smallest facility."

The Ohio facility employed 112 people, some of which may be given the opportunity to transfer to the company's Butler, Indiana plant. New Millennium Building Systems also operates plants in Salem, Virginia and Lake City, Florida.
