“Save our Steel Jobs” rally held at US Steel’s Alabama tube plant

A rally to save steel jobs in the US was held Monday at the US Steel Fairfield Works and Tubular Operations plant in Fairfield, Alabama, focusing on the potential effect of the looming trade case ruling against OCTG imports.

Speakers at the rally included Alabama Congresspersons Terri Sewell, Spencer Bachus and Representative Robert Aderholt, along with Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul, US Steel Fairfield Tubular Operations Plant Manager Patrick J. Mullarkey, and United Steelworkers Local 1013 President David Clark.

The event was hosted by the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM), along with partnership from the United Steelworkers and United States Steel Corporation.

According to the event’s organizers, thousands of Alabamians have been employed in the steel trade for many years and the Fairfield community--among many others--will be at risk if the US DOC rules in favor of foreign steel mills.
