Swedish high-technology engineering and steelmaking group Sandvik has announced that it will close its site in Turku, Finland and optimize its site in Tampere, Finland, in line with its previously announced supply chain optimization program.

Sandvik will continue manufacturing of all products at other sites in Finland, China and the US. Production at the Turku site is estimated to end in the second quarter of 2016.

The company said that the decision will affect all 460 employees at the site in Turku. 340 of the existing 460 jobs at the Turku site will continue to be affected by the closure. Transfer possibilities will be offered to approximately 140 persons currently holding those 340 jobs.

The optimization will not result in personnel reductions at the Tampere site as previously indicated.
