Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), steel producing units of Indian state-run steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), have reported their production results for the financial year 2008-09 (ended March 31).
Accordingly, in FY 2008-09 RSP recorded an output of over two million mt of hot metal for the third consecutive year, and more than two million mt of crude steel production for the second consecutive year.
In addition, the steel plant recorded a capacity utilization rate of 110.3 percent in hot metal production and 109.6 percent in crude steel output in FY 2008-09.
Meanwhile, BSP, the flagship unit of SAIL, ended FY 2008-09 with its best yearly production figures to date.
During the year in question, BSP produced 5.39 million mt of hot metal, 5.18 million mt of crude steel and 4.49 million mt of saleable steel, up 2.3 percent, 2.5 percent and 1.4 percent respectively compared to the production data for FY 2007-08.
