SAIL to modernize Rourkela Steel Plant

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) announced plans to modernize its Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) with an investment of Rupees 3.48 billion ($75 million). The investment is a part of SAIL's expansion plan aiming to reach an annual capacity of 20 million tons by 2011-12. In line with the plan, the existing coke oven batteries at RSP will be rebuilt at an estimated cost of Rupees 1.95 billion ($42 million). Moreover, new technologies will be used in order to modernize the facilities at RSP.
