Ruukki supplies steel pylons for power line project in Finland

On June 29, Finnish steelmaker Ruukki announced that the Ylitornio-Liakka power line project in northern Finland used a new type of pylon developed by Ruukki and FSDT Ltd, the Finnish company responsible for power line planning.

According to the company's statement, one of the benefits of a single-legged pylon is that it can be quickly erected. Land use is also more effective with the new power lines since the pylon route requires a narrower space, said Ruukki.

Evaluating the new product, Sami Eronen, Ruukki Construction's senior vice president for infrastructure and northern Europe, said, "Steel is a long-lasting pylon material and fully recyclable. The use of weather-resistant steel in particular further reduces the environmental impacts of the pylon."
