Finnish steelmaker Ruukki has signed a contract worth €8 million with Norway-based construction contractor Skanska Norge AS to design, manufacture and install the steel structures for Norwegian oil and natural gas producer Statoil's new regional office to be built in Fornebu, located near Oslo, Norway.

Ruukki is closely involved in the different stages of the project including designing and implementing the fire protection of the building.

According to a Ruukki release, the new regional office of Statoil will be a nine-storey architecturally-unique building. It will have five separate rectangular wings stacked on top of each other as if to form a star. A 1,250-metric ton mobile crane, the biggest in the Nordic countries, will be used to install the structures.

The structures for Statoil's new regional office will be manufactured mostly at Ruukki's unit in Ylivieska, Finland. Deliveries of the steel structures will begin in December 2010 and on-site installation will start in January 2011. The building will be ready for occupancy in September 2012.
