Russkaya Stal (Russian Steel), a non-profit association of Russian domestic steelmakers, has reported that its main member enterprises produced 4.18 million mt of finished steel in February this year, down 7.8 percent from January and decreasing by 3.45 percent compared to February last year. Finished steel production of the member enterprises came to 8.7 million mt in the January-February period this year, down 2.1 percent compared to the same period of last year.
Finished steel shipments of Russian Steel member companies to domestic end-users in February were down by 6.4 percent month on month to 2.24 million mt, while year-on-year figures indicated a 3.7 percent decrease. In the first two months of the year, Russian Steel companies shipped 4.6 million mt of finished steel to the local market, down 1.4 percent year on year.
Members of Russian Steel exported 1.94 million mt of finished steel in February, down 9.3 percent compared to January and down 3.2 percent compared to February last year. In the January-February period, export shipments amounted to 4.1 million mt, down 2.8 percent year on year.
