According to the State Statistics Committee of Russia (Russtat), in the first five months of the current year Russia registered a 7.2 percent rise in its rolled steel product output to 26.2 million mt, a 5.3 percent increase in its crude steel output to 30 million mt and a 8.1 percent rise in its pig iron production to 21.3 million mt, all year on year. In the given period, Russia saw a 12 percent decrease year on year in its steel pipe production to 3.9 million mt.
In addition, in January-May Russia produced 141 million mt of coal and 11.4 million mt of metallurgical coke, up 5.8 percent and one percent respectively compared to the same period last year.
