Russia issues January 2009 output results

According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in the first month of 2009 the country registered an 18 percent decrease in coal mining output and a 39.7 percent reduction in iron ore mining output year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 23.6 million and 5.4 million.
 
In addition, during the same period Russia produced 1.8 million metric tons of coke - down 40 percent, 3.5 million metric tons of finished steel products - down 34.2 percent, and 370,000 metric tons of steel pipes - down 34.6 percent, all compared to January 2008.
