According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in the first two months of 2008 the country registered a 3.6 percent rise in coal mining output and a 4.8 percent rise in iron ore mining output year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 56.6 million and 17.3 million.
In addition, during the same period Russia produced 5.7 million metric tons of coke - up 5.1 percent, 10.5 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 6.4 percent, and 1.2 million metric tons of steel pipes - down 9.9 percent, all compared to January-February 2007.
