Russia almost doubles scrap exports in February

According to Russia's custom and railway statistics, in February 2009 Russia exported 175,500 mt of scrap - up 92 percent compared to the previous month.

In February 2009, Russia's shipments of scrap were directed mostly to Belarus, which received a total of 112,200 mt. Thus, during the period in question Belarus increased by 2.4 times its share among the biggest country-importers of Russian scrap. Meanwhile, compared to February 2008, Belarus was the only country which increased its scrap imports from Russia, registering a rise of about 46.3 percent.
