Rise in Germany’s import iron ore prices slows down in May

According to a report released by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in May this year the import price of iron ore increased by 7.4 percent year on year in Germany and was up 14.2 percent month on month. May was the sixth consecutive month in which the import price of iron ore increased. However, the rate of increase of import iron ore prices slowed down in May, following the month-on-month increase rate of 21.9 percent registered in April.

Meanwhile, in May, nickel imported by Germany for stainless steel production was 101.2 percent more expensive compared to May 2009 and was up one percent compared to the previous month.

In the month in question, the import price of iron and steel and ferroalloys in Germany rose by 31.2 percent year on year, while the month-on-month increase rate was recorded at 2.5 percent.
