Australia-based miner Rio Tinto has announced that it plans to increase production capacity at its Gudai-Darri iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia to an annual 50 million mt.

The capacity ramp-up will be through equipment updates at a cost of around US$70 million.

The mine began production last year and reached its planned annual capacity of 43 million mt in less than 12 months from first ore.
