Rio Tinto halts production at two Australian iron ore mines following accident

Australian mining giant Rio Tinto has announced that operations at its Brockman 2 iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia have been halted as a result of an accident at the mine. One worker working on loading equipment died in the accident which happened late on Tuesday, August 16. The Brockman 2 mine is located 60 kilometers northwest of Tom Price town in the Pilbara region.

In addition, operations at the adjacent Nammuldi iron ore mine will also remain suspended until further notice.

The Brockman 2 mine has an annual production capacity of 8.7 million mt, while the Nammuldi mine's annual output capacity is 6.6 million mt.
