Finnish steelmaker Rautaruukki (Ruukki) is to provide steel structures, including installation, as well as fire protection designed using new software, for a new sports center to be built in the Salmisaari district of Helsinki. Ruukki's delivery is worth a total of almost €4 million.

Rautaruukki has already supplied the steel piles for the building's foundations, delivering more than three kilometers of drilled steel pipe piles. The products in question, made at Ruukki's plant in Pulkkila, Finland, have been used instead of the steel core piles in the original plans.

Most of the steel frame is being made at Ruukki's plant in Peräseinäjoki, Finland, and the parts of the frame are fire protected either at the plant or on the construction site. Installation of the steel frame is scheduled for completion in August 2009. In addition to installing the steel structures, Ruukki will also install the concrete elements in the project.

The sports center is scheduled for completion in early 2010.
